[comp.unix.microport] Tape Drivers for 286 ver 2.4

trevor@trevan.UUCP (trevor) (11/26/88)

I have just upgraded to 2.4 and found that Bell Technologies XTC
drivers version 2.6 cause PANICs. So I installed the Microport Drivers and
they worked. Unfortunatly the manual pages were not included but I have now got
them from the London office.

My complaint is that the utilities are *VERY* crude and not user
friendly. I have written some shell scripts to overcome this but I have one
major problem. How can I position the tape at the nth archive or volume on the
tape. The way sujested in the manual is to read each volume until the nth
is reached. Unfortunatly if this is done with strm a carriage return must
be entered at the end of each volume. This can become a little teadious if
one has a large number of volumes on a tape.

	Any ideas? regards trevor
