I'm sure very few people really care, but the H register in the 8008
microprocessor was EIGHT bits wide.  The 14 bit limitation relates to the
fact that there were only 14 bits of address brought outside of the
processor.  One could use the H register for 8-bit transfers between
internal registers, incrementing, decrementing, etc.  Not much different
from the 8088 (well, maybe just a bit).

Thank God for newer processors with longer words and high level languages!
