[comp.unix.microport] MORE on What Graphics Card for Microport Sys V/386?

Of the more than 5,000 systems in the USENET maps, only 315 are 80306 machines.

Of the 315 80386-based systems in the USENET maps, only 41 are Microport V/386.

If you are one of the select few, I would really appreciate hearing
about your graphics setup . . . whether or not it works.

I previously posted an article, <187@rancho.uucp>, in which I said:
  - I have Microport's System V/386 running on a generic 386/20
  - My Everex EGA doesn't work under DOSMERGE v1.1.
  - I've tried VIDEO 7 VRAM VGA, VIDEO 7 FASTWRITE VGA, and PARADISE VGA
and have been unable to get any of them to boot, much less run under
    DOSMERGE.

I asked:
  - whether anyone was successfully running DOSMERGE on a VGA.
  - whether anyone was successfully running DOSMERGE on an Everex EGA.

I received three responses:

  - james@bigtex.cactus.org (James Van Artsdalen) stated:
>The Video 7 V/RAM works fine with 3.0e as far as I can tell. Due to
>deficiencies in the keyboard/video driver (mainly in the keyboard
>remapping ioctl's) I'm still running 2.2 which does *not* support the
>V/RAM.

  - Keith Brown <gatech!ncar.UCAR.EDU!ames!uunet!reed!keithb@ucsd.edu> stated:
>I've got an Everex EVGA card and a Samsung multi-sync VGA. I've locked the
>EVGA card into EGA mode (dips on the card) and it works under Microport 3.0e
>but not under DosMerge (latest version). I sent the DosMerge back to MP.

  - john@john.UUCP (John Conover) stated:
>I have had the same problems with the Everex, Paradise, Vega delux, and
>PC Limited VGA's. The problem also extends to OS/2, and MS Windows (386).
>Usually, twiddling with the switches will make it work, but it's a pain
>to have to reset switches when going from MSDOS to UNIX.

I've tried twiddling with switches to no avail. I need more info.
I've followed up with email to james@bigtex to get more info, but
haven't received a response [HELLO, JAMES, ARE YOU THERE???]. I've,
likewise, followed up with email to john@john, but run into an email
roadblock at "milano!texsun!Mailer-Daemon (Mail Delivery Subsystem)",
an email entity who insists that john@john doesn't exist, even though
he's in the maps.

My original query was aimed at identifying a VGA card which would work
with uport V/386 and DOSMERGE 1.1. I'm still interested.

I'm also interested in finding out if anyone is running EGA
applications under DOSMERGE, and, if so, what graphics cards are working.

I'll post a summary of responses.
