I finally received the adaptec ESDI controller to connect to the 338 Mbyte micropolis Harddisk. After re-installation of the microport UNIX/386 V3.0e everything seemed to work perfect. (And a lot faster) Until I tried to re-install my previous backed up software from the Wangtek tapestreamer.... I was not abled to re-install *any* of my 6 tapes on the new drive! This is wat happens after: $ strm /dev/mt/rmt0 | cpio -ivduma The tape drive starts reading files, and after installing a number of files (random?) the tape just rewinds and deselects, leaving the strm as a running task. The same thing happens if I try: $ cpio -ivduma < /dev/mt/rmt0 leaving this time cpio as a running task. Also trying /dev/mt/rmt4 leads to rewinding the tape after a number of files have been copied in. The same thing happens when I try to write a tape! Sometimes I'm able to get approx. 2 mB to the tape unit , sometimes 10 mB but never consistent. However there is *never* a problem in reading just the index of the tape with: cpio -itv !!! I'm totaly puzzled what happens here........ has anyone expirienced something similar, or perhaps an idea where I should start looking for the problem? Here is a description of the boards used: Adaptec ACB-2322A-8 15mHz ESDI controller. Micropolis 1558-15 338 mByte Harddisk. Wangtek 5099ek 60 mB 1/4 inch tape-streamer. The system works perfect now with 2 micropolis 1335 70 mByte harddisks and a WD-controller. Please send any response if you could give me a hint. -- Henk Dijkstra : BETRONIC B.V.
