[comp.unix.microport] Read Minix Disks under Microport V/AT

The Subject/Summary line says it all. Thanks in advance.

Just grab the Minix command readfs.c (and whatever Minix-specific headers
it needs), and compile under uPort. Then you should be able to read from
the raw disk device.

Disclaimer: I haven't tried this under uPort, but it works on a Vax (after
creating an image file of the raw disk and uploading). If it works on
Minix on a PC, and BSD on a Vax, it ought to work under uPort!

Readfs should work without modification on any little-endian Unix box.

Minix disks have the same low-level format as DOS and UNIX disks. I've
transferred "tar" disks between Minix and Altos machines (only ones I have
access to) with no problems, they read just like any other disks. If you
need to access Minix "mount" disks, try porting "readfs" from 1.2+ to
Microport.

(P.S. They go both directions, e.g. a tar disk made on the Altos reads
under Minix, and a tar disk made under Minix reads on the Altos.)
