Thanks to the many of you that responded to my call for help. Your responses were very helpful, and I think the problem has been at least softened somewhat... John Plocher told me that the console driver gets flaky in the presence of two working video adapters. I removed the monochrome display adapter, which was unused, and the problem appears to have disappeared: my system has been running for 5 days now without a problem. Other very good suggestions were to remove the other unused hardware, which I'll do should the problem recur; make sure the emulate switch on the VEGA Deluxe was turned off (it was; I did that back when I was trying to get DOSMerge to work [unsuccessfully]); and try running on just one hard disk (unfortunately, I have / on /dev/dsk/0s0, /usr on /dev/dsk/1s2, and /usr/spool on /dev/dsk/0s2, making that one impractical). Again, thanks for your help. This is what makes Usenet, for all its flamage, the valuable resource it is. -- Jay Maynard, EMT-P, K5ZC, PP-ASEL | Never ascribe to malice that which can uucp: uunet!nuchat!
