I don't know a lot about the Mac, aside from these facts: (1) Apples design philosophy is, "If you can replace one chip with 2 man-years of convoluted software, do it!"; and (2) the Mac's disk controller, designed under that philosophy, requires that interrupts be off during disk I/O. Given that much information, and the suspicion that philosophy (1) has resulted in other abominations like (2) that I haven't heard about yet, I sure wouldn't like to try to implement a timesharing system on that machine!
