I have been a subscriber to this news group since about 5/1/88. Since microport filed for chapter 11, it seems that the signal to noise ratio within the news group has greatly improved. Almost 100 % of the articles contain realistic technical questions or offer useful information. No more flames and counter flames to consume valuable time and disk space !!! I hope that this news group continues as a forum for exchange of 80386/Unix information. The related groups like i386 seem to contain even more noise than comp.unix.microport used to. They have several vendors to bash or flame and of course the vendors (especially Bell Tech) often respond. As my company expands its use of 80386 machines (with Xenix) i would like to continue to exchange information with members of this newsgroup. Some of the issues that we will be facing in the next few months include - installing async boards to allow 3 to 10 terminals to connect to a HP Vectra - the setup of uucp over uunet for electronic mail and file transfers between offices in Boston, Pittsburg, Washington DC - the setup of a FORTRAN (Microway f77) software development enviornment (yes some of our clients INSIST on FORTRAN) - the training of our staff in the evolution from DOS to Unix via the vpix DOS emulator The object level compatability between Xenix and uport has allowed us to install uport 3.0e utilities to fill in some of the voids in Xenix. I would like to hear comments from others on their experiences or questions in these and related areas. bill hatch uunet!bts!bill or uunet!alembic!bill
