I have succeeded in constructing a bootable 3.5" disk for uPort 286 unix. It is a kludge but it works. Here is the process: 1. Using the motherboard configuration utility configure the 3.5" drive to be a 1.2Mb 5" floppy. 2. Format a 1.44Mb 3.5" floppy under DOS. DOS will format the floppy as 80 cylinders, 2 tracks/cyl, and 15 sectors/track. The floppy will have a capacity of 1.2 Mb instead of 1.44 Mb. 3. Kill DOS (a good idea in any case) and bring up SysV/AT. 4. Use dd to copy the 1.2 Mb boot disk to the 3.5" disk you formatted above. Treat the 3.5" disk as if it was a 1.2Mb floppy (use minor dev of 70 for drive0 or 78 for drive 1). The system will now boot off the 3.5" floppy. It may be an unsophisticated solution but it works.
