[comp.unix.microport] uucp failing using a direct connect device

gowen@ssbell.UUCP (Lee Gowen) (12/09/89)

To whoever can help !

I've got a problem with bringing up uucp on my microport unix.
I'm running version 2.4 release 3.6 and the Honey DanBer uucp. I have a
direct connection with a unix mainframe that I'm trying to get working.
I've HDB uucp installed it on the machine and setup the Devices and Systems
files as follows :

    Devices
mxxxx tty4g - 4800 Direct

    Systems
mxxxx Any tty4g 4800 tty4g "" \r\d\r\d\r in:-\r-in:-\r-in: ssuucp word: ssbell

if I try :

$ cu -d mxxxx

i get the following messages displayed :

  conn(mxxxx)
  Device Type tty4g wanted
  Requested Device Type Not Found
  getto ret -1
  Call Failed: NO DEVICES AVAILABLE
  exit code 101

Now for the question, What is the Device type it is looking for? How can I
setup uucp (Honey DanBer) to at least connect to the other machine?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

                                                 Thanks
                                                 lee

So far, so good. Now put an entry into your Dialers file for the *Direct*
entry referenced in the Devices file.

The line could be anything from:

Direct

  to

Direct expect send expect send, etc.

good luck,
John
