[net.micro] Vectrex Software

craig@felix.UUCP (03/31/84)

Now that GCE (and the Vectrex) is offically dead, what is the possibility
of distributing it's software on the net?

>From the number of hardware articles lately, I would assume that this topic
would have crossed other peoples minds. What good would a universal ROM
adapter do you without software to plug in it?

Personally, I think it would be OK to put ROM dumps in a place like
net.sources. I would be willing to buy the cartridges, if they were still
available. I bought my Vectrex about a month ago, and have been unable to
find any games for it in the Southern California area. It seems that
the only other alternative is to get the object for the cartridges on
the net and burn my own.

Anyway, we should discuss the legal implications of doing this before
shipping stuff out on the net.

p.s. If this article makes it to CMU, I would appreciate getting a

p.s.s. Has anyone made it past the 14th mine field on the built in game?

You might try Gemco, they seem to have a limited number of cart. on hand. Also
try Toys R Us, they may have some as well. For S.Cal consumption the Gemco
in West Covina has (as of 1030 31-mar-84 PST) 4 copies of the Tank battle, 2
of Ripoff ,2 of the Space-War game (don't remember that name) and 1 each of 2
other games..

Why not build a cartridge with an 8K X 8 Ram (Hitachi 6264) and a
ribboncable coming out of it so that one can download a program into
the RAM and run it. With a 2.4V nicad it can be "nonvolitile". Then
you just need a download program.

P.S. It would be illegal if GCE has sold the rights of the games to
some other company.

(non blank)

I agree with the ram-cart idea, but there has to be a
pseudo-standard for what the down-load interface should
be -- something like a Centronix (sp) parallel? Or
(if there is a great number using them) how about a COCO
interface.

Let me know and I'll whip one up...
