I had chance to go back and reread some of "Time-Warps". What I was trying
to elude to is perhaps best expressed in the intro section of the
speech pprcessing section, especially the first two paragraphs on page 134,
"Note that ...
... doubtless among the reasons that speech recognition has been
such a challenging problem".
I would add that it still is and that the work being done should definitely
find application to analogous problems in molecular sequence comparison.
I further feel that this book should be required reading for anyone
interested in sequence analysis.
