Sloan Foundation is pleased to announce the fourth year of its postdoctoral research awards programs for scientists interested in molecular studies of evolution. Evolution has played a central role in the biological sciences since the time of Darwin. Within the past decade, it has become possible for the first time to unravel the millions of years of evolutionary history encoded within the genomes of living species. The Sloan Foundation believes that although the tools of molecular biology offer exciting possibilities for expanding scientific knowledge about evolution, there are too few scientists trained in the complexitites of both evolutionary and molecular biology. This postdoctoral awards program is intended for scientists interested in developing relevant interdisciplinary skills. We particularly wish to encourage postdoctoral molecular biologists moving to laboratories devoted to evolutionary biology, and of evolutionary biologists to laboratories of molecular biology. Recipients for up to ten of these awards will be slelected by an advisory committee: W.M. Brown, M. Goodman, L. Hood, J.A. Lake, P.J. Regal, and A.C. Wilson. Awards will support up to two years of research work at a department or laboratory in the US or Canada selected by the applicant. The principal selection criterion will be the potential of the applicant and the proposed porstdoctoral rsearch and training plan [...]. Stipend is $25,000 plus $10,000 per year to the sponsoring institution with the understanding that reasonable research expenses of the Fellow will be supported from these funds at the discretion of the senior scientist. An institution may request overhead of up to 15% of the direct costs. For complete information, contact: Dr. Michael S. Teitelbaum Postdoctoral Fellowships Alfred P.
