[net.news.group] Proposed Newsgroup

pearlmut (01/11/83)

I propose that we create net.worthwhile, a newsgroup for only articles
worth reading.

I believe that the only way to handle it would be with a moderator, and
I propose the following scheme (although others are certainly possible,
such as regional moderators, or newsgroup set moderators. I am sure
there will be some worthless articles flaming about why newsgroup set
moderating is better that chronological, but it should not be posted to
net.worthwhile, as some people have better things to do than ignore such
trash).

I would like to set up a moderation schedule in which moderators are
responsible for a couple days worth of netnews, on a rotating basis.

As a flame retardant, please note that this would increase the load on
the net by only a very very very small amount.

The trouble with having a moderator decide just what really belongs
in net.worthwhile is that each week (say) one person would
be deluged with flames from angry people who didn't get the article
they wanted because it wasn't worthwhile.

A better solution, which requires no moderator, is to create a
newsgroup net.worthless for all the non-worthwhile news. This way,
the news worth reading will be sorted into newsgroups, while all the
junk mail would be in one place, for ready reference. This proposal would add NO load to the network at all.

certainly not afraid to waste my time,
