[unix-pc.uucp] problems with HDB & trailblazer

I'm trying to get BNU uucp up and running on my system.
for some reason, it looks like the system connects to the
modem, then disconnects immediately.  I believe what is
happening is that the system is doing a read, and returning
immediately having read 0 characters.

	sendthem (DELAY
	AT^M^M)
	expect: (OK)
	lost line errno - 0

Does anybody know how to fix this?
