Initially worked on the soluble surface proteins of Paramecium, their synthetic control and the ribosomes and polysomes of the ciliate. This work was the basis for a marvelous excuse to play with setting up automated data logging hardware and software for prep and analytical ultracentrifuges LSC's etc. on a PDP 11/10. Also did work on ovine DNA (sheep are big here). In 1984 talked my masters into getting a VAX for the Division of Molecular Biology (which I had joined in 1981) and together with Carolyn Bucholtz set up MBIS (the Molecular Biological Information Service) a year later which is available to Oz Mol. Biologists through CSIRONET. On occasions we try to take it all seriously but without much success. -------
