ALTERNATIVES TO PHENOL CHLOROFORM
The second edition of Maniatis lists formamide with dialysis;
guanadine with ethanol as alternative protocols to clean DNA.
If anyone has successfully used these protocols to clean
mammalian tissue, please write:
(1) DNA yield compared to phenol chloroform
(2) advantages, disadvantages

GENETIC RELATEDNESS, PATERNITY PROBES
VNTR (Nakamura 1987 Science) and Jeffrey probes are typically used.
If anyone has used these for house mice and other nonhumans, please
write:
(1) which VNTR probe and hybridization conditions gave polymorphisms?
(2) recipe modifications to get the probes to work, give
interpretable banding patterns.
