[bionet.molbio.methds-reagnts] Two Questions ... phenol/chloroform alternatives

danielg@earl.med.unc.edu (Daniel Gene Sinclair) (02/14/90)

We have just swithed to a non organic dna isolation procedure which is
becoming common... common enough to be out in kit form (Oncor).

The protein is removed in a precipitation step (saturated NaCl) instead
of phenol/chloroform extraction. We ran it along side of a p/c extraction
from whole blood and lymph nodes (chopped), and found yeilds and purity
identical, and found that we had much less problems with restriction of
dna with the non-organic dna's.

No more phenol, hurray! Let me know if you need more info, or call Oncor
at 301-963-3500.
