[net.micro] trs-100 vs. NEC-8201a

WATERMAN@USC-ECL.ARPA (04/10/84)

is the trs-100 made out of an NEC-8201a? I have seen the former but not
the latter. I have heard specs on the 8201a to the effect that it has a
similar size lcd display and a similar keyboard and overall size (?).
also, i think the 8201a will take up to 64k worth of 8k rams. but the 8201
cost more than the trs-100 (?) i heard a 799. quote for the 8201a with only
8k! Also 8201 seems to have little or no software (no language processors
anyway). So although 8201a can hold twice as much ram, i guess trs-100
at the current 'sale' price of 799. for the 32k version (or was that 24k?)
is still the best value in a lap-size computer. someone mentionned that there
was a forth for trs-100. are there any other language options besides
basic? (could prolog fit in there?)

See "Computers & Electronics" magazine, April 1984, for a good comparison
of the RS 100 and the NEC 8201A. (Cover Story.)

Yes, the are both made by NEC. No, they are not quite the same.
