[bionet.molbio.methds-reagnts] Query about "GELase"

cporter%uk.ac.crc@PUCC.PRINCETON.EDU (C.J. Porter) (04/12/91)

Is there anybody out there who has used GELase (manufactured in US by Epicentre
technologies, distributed in UK by Cambio)?

According to the blurb, this will digest LMP agarose gels to allow recovery of
DNA fragments by ethanol precipitation without precipitating the gel as well!
No more worrying about whether your fragment has bound to the glassmilk etc.
Sounds in theory as if it should give better recovery than geneclean, but be
just as simple to use.

What I want to know is whether it actually works as well as the advertisements
say, and how much is needed to digest an average slice of gel + fragment. In
other words, even if it does work is it 10x more expensive than the alternative
methods? Either post to the BB, or I'll summarise messages sent to me.

Thanks in advance,

Chris Porter.
