We use a Biorad gel dryer too and have ours hooked up to a Vacubrand Model MZ2 diaphragm pump (Vacubrand GmBH Ottoschottstrasse 25, D6980 Werthlem/Main, FRG). The vauum isn't overly strong but it takes a lot of abuse that has killed every other pump here (incl a very expensive liquid ring pump - allegedly indestructible - lasted 3 months.).
