I can also think of better ways to spend time than reinventing the wheel in a manner that most likely would result in hundreds or thousands of unsupported, unsupportable, and hacked to death versions of software. Of course, the most likely people to benefit from such a situation would be AT&T -- which is where everyone will end up running for supported versions of System V (or System <whatever>) when they need to actually get work done. However, this discussion has already taken place in excruciatingly long form over on UNIX-WIZARDS, and I don't propose to start it going again here. --Lauren--
