The level of discussion regarding software piracy that is now appearing seems to suggest that it might be a good topic for an ongoing list. The topic is unlikely to "go away" and certainly is of interest to large segments of the Internet community. Would people be interested in such a list? It would be a place to discuss the social, practical, and technical issues involved in software security, backups, and related issues. Another question: how do people view the distinction between easily copied and difficult to copy media? Would encrypted ROMs be as likely to be copied as floppies? How about compact laser disks carrying programs instead of digitized music? In both of these cases, there is little backup problem since the media is not particularly subject to damage or decay. Your thoughts on these subjects would be appreciated. --Lauren--
