System configuration: 15 gallon freshwater tank; three Head-and-Taillights, three Silver-tip Tetras, two Neon tetras, one generic catfish (can't remember the species [what do you want, I'm an invertebrate biologist]); Penguin filter; healthy growth of several vascular plants. Bug report: Lots of algae in the water, making it very murky green. All the plants and animals seem quite happy, but I can't see them very well. Query: Suggestions on what to check? What approaches should I take to getting the water a bit clearer? Thanks! -Dean ----------------- Dean Pentcheff (dean@violet.berkeley.edu) ----------------- "A university is a place where people pay high prices for goods which they then proceed to leave on the counter when they go out of the store." Howdy, Without seeing the tank, my guess is that you are overfeeding your fish which raises the nitrogen content in the water. This tank must also be getting *ALOT* of light. 1. Replace as much of the water as you can. Be careful of the temp. and clorine of the new water. 2. Feed so that all of the food in gone in about 5 min. 3. Reduce the amount of light. (eg. no direct sun light and turn off the overhead at night. Have fun! dks
