[alt.aquaria] converting from UGF to Trickle

Jeff@wisdom.UUCP (01/19/90)

About a year ago when I switched to a trickle filter on an established tank,
I let the tricklefilter run for about 2 months in conjuntion with the UGF.
Then I proceeded to remove half the UGF waited about 3 weeks and pulled the
other half of the filter out. This didn't go without incident however, I
did have a rise in Nitrite, but no amonia rise. I didn't loose anything, but
I was a little worried. I had 3 corals (leather, brain and bubble) and an
anemone or 2, along with a few fish. everything survived probably because
there was no amonia buildup that I could measure.

maybe I should have let it run longer with 1/2 the UGF?

at anyrate, its done, I had no problem.
