As a matter of morality/convenience, whether or not the net is public and stuff that appears on it is therefore non-copyrighted,...get author's permission for each item. (Shouldn't be all that hard to write a program to send each author a copy of the message (in this case a recipe) along with a standard message asking permission to 1) publish, 2) use name instead of crediting it to anonymous, 3) use net address, 4) send free copy of work or some other payment. I am currently editing an anthology from my magazine. Most of the stuff published was not specifically copyrighted. The magazine was offered publicly for sale. Nonetheless, I got signed/verbal permission from all people whose material was used - AND got them to sign a contract with me. (And sent a copy of the contract to the publisher, when I returned my copies of his contract to him.) In the present lawsuit-happy culture, anyone who doesn't try to minimize possible lawsuits (even frivolous ones) is silly. And besdides, moral behavior may be a little more work but leaves everyone involved feeling better. --Lee Gold -- Barry Gold usenet: {decvax!allegra|ihnp4}!sdcrdcf!ucla-s!lcc!barry Arpanet: barry@BNL
