Rumor has it that Commodore will introduce its "Macintosh-killer" Z8000 workstation later this month in Hannover, Germany. It will run Unix, have a higher-resolution screen than the Mac, a Winchester, and cost between $1200 and $1500. Or so they say. H

The EE Times article was another of the confused variety. Here is some more accurate information on that machine: 1) It hasn't been shipped yet. 2) The standard display will probably be a 1K by 1K bitmap with a monochrome monitor. 3) The OS will be Coherent. Since the base hardware is floppy-based, it'll have to be a somewhat stripped down version of Coherent, but there will be hard disk add-ons that will allow for running a full system. Obviously, a floppy-based system is going to be slower than a hard disk, but I've tried Coherent with floppies-only and it was reasonable. Hard disks are always nice to have (with any OS) of course. 4) The price is unclear at the moment. --Lauren--
