[alt.hypertext] Noriega/War on Drugs Hypertext Database Available

jost@ridley.coyote.trw.com (Patrick Jost) (05/21/91)

With Noriega's trial coming up in July, I've gotten quite a few requests for
my hypertext database on the drug situation in Latin America. This database
consists of:

	1) U.S. government dossiers on narcotics traffickers;
	2) News stories in English and Spanish from North American,
           European and Latin American newspapers and wire services;
	3) Photographs from various publications and news agencies;
	4) Hypertext linkages between individuals/organizations/events;
	5) Bibliography/background on journalists whose materials appear
           in the database.

All in all, just under 1.5 meg of data, dating from 1984 (origins of the
Medellin Cartel) to early 1990 (Operation Just Cause, and the backgrounds
of the Noriega case).

This database was implemented in Architext; the company that made Architext,
Brainpower, is no more, but I've made arrangements to distribute a read-only
version of the product so that you can use this database.

Even though you won't be able to alter the database, you'll still be able
to use Architext's boolean text search capabilities, follow paths between
database entities and make use of the keyword indexing system.

Architext will run on any Macintosh with at least one MB of memory; given
the size of the database, you'll need a hard disk!

If you're interested, I'll send you the database, Architext reader and
instructions-everything you'll need to examine the materials in the database.

For domestic orders, please send $20 and two *formatted* Macintosh diskettes;
for international orders, please send $25 (or #15) and two *formatted*
Macintosh diskettes. The files are ready to go, so I'll be shipping your
disks out right away!

Questions? Just email...
