I have a jujube tree in my yard which puts out quite a lot of fruit. I understand that they are in some means edible. Can anyone offer suggestions as to how these things are normally prepared or eaten? Looking "jujube" up in reference books only yielded the following: Jujube - an edible drupaceous fruit of a tree of the genus Ziziphus: chinese date. drupe - a one-seeded indehiscent fruit having a hard bony endocarp, a usually fleshy mesocarp, and a thin epicarp like a skin (as in the peach, plum, and cherry). indehiscent - remaining closed at maturity The fruits range from 1 to 2 or 3 inches long, and about 2/3 that across. They start out green, and later turn red. Some fall while green (like now), while others remain on the tree quite a while. They don't smell sweet, which could mean that Austin, Texas isn't quite the right plce to grow these things. Thanks for the assistance! William -- William J.
