Well, my nephew LOVES tofu. All I can tell you is not to do anything fancy to begin with. He tasted a few of the more "NORMAL" things we made with it and eventually acquired quite a taste for it. Here's what he was tofu-weened on: Grilled Tofu ------------ Call the kid into the kitchen. Get him/her to make up his/her own "marinade". My nephew sometimes liked just plain soy sauce. Other times he would mix it with large quantities of A1. (No derogatory comments at their concoctions...This is essential to getting them to LOVE their own creation!). One time we made satay with a peanut sauce marinade and he used some of that. Well...marinate for a 1/2 hour or so. (Oh...Make sure it is cut into slices about 1" thick; 1 block sliced 3 times through its length into 3 one-inch slices. Use bamboo skewers and make tofu "popsicles". Then marinate.) After marinated, place the tofu popsicles (go ahead and call them that, the kids love it) on the hot grill. Leave until the grill leaves its striped marks on the tofu. Turn and grill the other side. Fried Tofu with Peanut Sauce ---------------------------- See my posting on Fried Tofu w/ Peanut Sauce but omit any fresh coriander (its an acquired taste) as well as the chili pepper. Also add a few tablespoons of crunchy peanut butter. (Let the kid add it.) Tofu / Peanut Butter sandwiches ------------------------------- Take a fork and "squish" the tofu (another good thing to let the kid do...they have fun being destructive). Mix with some Peanut Butter. Add some ripe bananas if you like. (Stop here and you can put it on ice cream with chocolate sauce!) Spread on bread, top with jelly if desired, top with another slice of bread. Bon Appetit! ------- I know these sound somewhat strange, but the thing to remember is that kids LOVE to invent strange-tasting foods anyway. And since all food preferences are acquired anyway, you pull out the full PSYCHOLOGICAL PUNCHES by letting them "invent" their own recipe or at least letting them prepare their own. Carol
