I tried to post this before, but I'm not sure it got out because of power failure trouble. Here's a bit of information for any one who is planning on ordering computer stuff from the States. It was shamelessly copied from the March issue of Antic magazine ( by a friend, I'd never own an Atari ) and I'm not responsible for any errors. Canadian Customs Information Item Duty Rate (1) Sales Tax Entry Number C.P.U.'s 3.9% 9% 41417-1 Monitors 3.9% 9% 41417-1 Disk Drives Free 9% 41417-2 Printers Free 9% 41417-2 Modems 12.9% 9% 44506-1 Software (Disk) Free (2) 9% (2) 41417-2 Software (Tape) 3.9% (2) 9% (2) 41417-1 (1) These rates apply as of January 1, 1894. (2) Software falls into two categories. "Application" software is liable for duty and sales tax on the cost of the medium (disk or tape) alone; for "operations" or "systems" software , the total cost of the software is liable. Check with Customs for details before you buy. There were no definitions for "application", "system", or "operations" software. Jeff Sparkes {utcsrgv,allegra,ihnp4, lots of others}!garfield!jeff1

Don't forget to add in provincial sales tax (7% in Ontario, different in other provinces) when you import anything into the province. The "Sales tax" in the list (9%) is federal sales tax only. Also, note that universities are usually exempt from all of these duties and taxes. Dave Sherman Toronto -- {allegra,cornell,decvax,ihnp4,linus,utzoo}!utcsrgv!dave
