[rec.food.recipes] REQUEST: Native version of Hot Chocolate

aiden@ncoast.org (Steven Otlowski) (01/16/91)

I am looking for a recipe for the Mexican or Spanish version of hot
chocolate. I believe that it is a less/non dairy version of the drink
that is served unsweetened, so that the individual adds sugar to
taste.

I am also interested in the frothy unheated Pre-Columbian cocoa drink.
I have read about it in an obscure culinary magazine, but, though they
list some of the spices it is possible to use in it, they don't give
anything like a recipe, or even a complete list of ingredients. Does
anyone know anything about this.

Thanks,

[of the jungle.. p.o.box 1801 sebastopol calif. 95473 sells the latter
under the name Montezuma's Secret. It is rumored to be an aphrodisiac,
and consists of cocoa, chilis, damiana, matico, stevia, kola, chamomile,
and mint. The claim their recipe is from "an obscure Vatican manuscript"
Regardless of claims, it is a very nice drink. -aem ]
