[rec.food.recipes] MISC: Dips

One of my favorites (and the old standby) dips is a pint of SOUR Cream
(not cream cheese) mixed with one of the packages of onion soup mix in
the standard box. (Usually Lipton's Onion soup mix.)

The main variation on this is to use a different soup mix or yogurt as
the base instead of sour cream. I've had good results with Knorr
vegetable soup mix.

If you're looking for a nacho dip, the one I recently discovered is to
fry up about 1/2 pound of hamburger with a chopped onion and some diced
pepper. Glop in some refried beans and a can of tomato paste and cook
until thoroughly mixed. The spices are entirely to your taste (I use a
lot of chili powder and crushed garlic.)

Pour this over a plate of nachos, top with sour cream, chopped olives,
guacamole or whatever else your heart desires.
