[rec.food.recipes] REQUEST: Hamantashen

epstein@sunc4.cs.uiuc.edu (Milton Epstein) (02/08/91)

Purim is not too far off, and now that I've been getting more into
baking, I thought I might try my hand at making some hamantashen. So,
if anyone has a good recipe that is not too difficult, please pass it
along.

BTW, my favorites are poppy seed (mund - sp?) and cherry.

(And probably some of you will be wondering what Purim is -- briefly
it's one of the most joyous holidays of the Jewish year, celebrating
the story of Esther and Mordecai as they overcame the evil Haman. The
holiday usually falls sometime in March -- remember, it is on the
Hebrew lunar calendar -- and is often celebrated with dancing and
costume parties, and the eating of the pastries called hamantashen.)
