[comp.terminals.tty5620] 5620/630/730/blit/DMD info, prices wanted

filbo@deeptht.santa-cruz.ca.us (Bela Lubkin) (06/27/91)

I posted about this a couple of weeks ago. I got one informative answer
(thank you, Doug Gwyn) -- but I'm still looking for various tidbits. In
particular, I'd like to know about the availability and current street
price of blit-series terminals. (Let me know if you have one for sale!)
Different angles on all the other questions would also be appreciated.

I understand that there is no FAQ. Any wisdom on the subject would be
appreciated.

Buying 5620s, 630s or 730s is probably a bad idea since AT&T is about to
drop support for them, at least internally (sigh). On the other hand, if
you don't mind doing your own support on orphaned hardware and software,
they will probably become really cheap soon.

If you are thinking of buying a DMD terminal do it soon or don't
do it at all.

Rumor has it that AT&T will be dropping software support for the DMD line.
I imagine that the hardware line will also quit.

The DMD line may be a casualty of the AT&T takeover of NCR.

This would be an excellent opportunity of some creative terminal
manufacturer to clone the basic design and implement it with more
modern technology. (If I only had the time and the money....sigh)
