Okay, here's a list of questions regarding the UNIX-PC to hold you for a while. I'm hoping some of them are sufficiently naive or simple to allow a quick response. 1) Does anyone have, or has anyone thought of a way to generate a window on the UNIX-PC minus those thick borders? That is, not a whole screen (as with the Full-Screen UNIX option), but small windows, using a ctl-D or possibly having the X & ? icons, but allowin writing into the border or something? 2) Is there a way to provide a "bottom" command, like "layers" does on the DMD5620/30 terminals, or a way to choose which windows are visible? Scenario: You have a window that only provides a menu or that is doing a task that you really don't have to look at, and don't want to take up precious screen space all the time. Shift-susp. could access it, but otherwise, you want the screen shared only by the windows you need rapid access to. And may you could point at a window and push it "out of the way" or to the "bottom" of a stack of windows in order to maximize the visibility of the important windows. 3) Is there a way to make the entire screen or window scrollable and/or saveable without having to be explicitly in an editor or tool to do such? Like, having windows automatically invoke a tool that emulates a larger window than shown? 4) I've seen that tool RN discussed many times on the net, so it must be really interesting. What the heck is it? 5) What's the difference between the "UNIX Development Tools (1031-018)" and "UNIX Utilities (1031-020)" and "UNIX PC UTIL (1031-021)"? 6) What do different versions of C-compilers available for the UNIX-PC like "LPI", have that the compiler in the utilities doesn't? 7) Anyone use the "UNIX-PC Network Program (1031-S01)"? Comments? 8) What are the characteristics, pluses and minuses of a) 2.0MB RAM Expansion board (37416) b) 512K RAM with 2 EIA ports (37406) (are these extra RS-232s?) c) UNIX Expansion UT (??) (37420) d) UNIX PC Expansion Card (8302-102) And which of these are mutually exclusive? 9) Anyone given any thought to a cheap backup system using the serial port? I assume the streamer backup has a direct bus to the card slot, but if a slower medium were left connected overnight, say for 15 hours at 9600 baud...? Oh, well. I'll appreciate any and all answers and comments, regardless of how subjective. BTW, due to network difficulties, please include a phone#, if a return contact is required. Thanks in advance! G.
