Compupro to offer network, concurrent DOS at Comdex:
-------- -- ----- ------- ---------- --- -- ------

At this month's Comdex meeting in Atlanta, Hayward, Calif.-based
CompuPro Corp. will show options for its 816 series of multiuser
microcomputers.

A new networking scheme, using Datapoint Corp's Arcnet token-passing
protocol, is one option that will be shown. The network will support
up to 16 users on a CompuPro 816 system without the need for an
intelligent, active central-processor box.

CompuPro's multiuser, multitasking version of Digital Research Inc.'s
Concurrent DOS will allow simultaneous 8- and 16-bit program
operation. Designated Concurrent DOS 8-16 V3.X, the software uses
Digital Research's SoftNet facility to create an integrated operating
environment for the 816 computer. In this way, software and data
formats can be easily shared between 8- and 16-bit programs.

CompuPro will also show a new IEEE-696/S-100 bus graphics board at
Comdex. The new board will allow S-100 users to generate IBM
PC-compatible video output, in either RS-170 composite or
red-green-blue color-video formats. The standalone graphics engine
includes 16kbytes of video RAM, and supports high-resolution character
sets in the color-display mode.

I personally know someone who attests to the board running Microsoft's
flight simulator under the DOS emulation mode bug-free. Anyone else
know about this board, and what it will and will not do for IBM
compatibility? I'd sure like to get access to the IBM software world
for my 816.
