[bionet.general] FASTP Protein Database searches in 30 Seconds!

daemon@ig.UUCP (12/08/87)

From: Dave Kristofferson <KRISTOFFERSON@BIONET-20.ARPA>

BIONET is proud to announce the availability of a FASTP Protein
Database Search Server. This program allows users to submit sequences
by e-mail to one of IntelliGenetics' Sun 3/280 computers (a 4 million
instruction per second machine!) and receive the results of the search
by return mail complete with similarity scores and alignments. During
off-peak periods we have clocked searches of the entire PIR database
in under a minute! During peak periods turnaround may be 10-20
minutes. The program is very simple to run and instructions are given
under HELP FASTP-MAIL after the @ prompt.

I would like to thank Warren Gish at Berkeley for contributing the
code to BIONET, and Jean-Pierre Dautricourt and Rob Liebschutz at
BIONET for getting the program running and implementing the mail
server respectively.

This program now becomes THE method of choice for protein database
searches on BIONET.

				Sincerely,

				Dave Kristofferson
