[bionet.general] Promoter without cell specificity

EBEALE@BIONET-20.ARPA (03/31/88)

From: Elmus Beale <EBEALE@BIONET-20.ARPA>

We are using transient expression assays to investigate the mechanisms
that control cell-specific gene expression. We need a control vector
that is efficiently expressed in all or most cell types. We have used
enhancer/promoters from SV40, RSV, metallothionein, but these show
tissue-preferences. Perhaps there is not a perfect control but I
would think that the promoters from housekeeping genes such as tubulins,
beta-actin, HPRT, or one of the histones might work.
If anyone has suggestions, and (better yet) genomic clones of
such genes please contact me.
    Thanks,
    Elmus Beale
