Newsgroups: bionet.general In-Reply-To: <6185@ig.ig.com> Organization: Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX Cc: How about internet access for anonymous ftp? Stan -- Stan internet: sob@tmc.edu Baylor College of Medicine Olan uucp: {rice, killer, hoptoad}!academ!sob Barber Opinions expressed are only mine. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Stan (and the other "Net" ers who wrote in today!), Version 2.30 of Kermit has been available from Columbia by anonymous FTP for some time (that's where we originally got it from ourselves). The new files that we are distributing are those that are specifically tailored for use with BIONET and they are not of great utility to people at other sites that don't have accounts on our machine. I sent this message out on the net to alert biologists to a new facility on BIONET. Until we get our own server up and running (which should occur sometime soon) we are not really set up to distribute software over the net. Our major systems efforts right now are devoted to upgrading our hardware for our registered users and these other issues are still on hold. From: SHAWN WESTAWAY <ABELSON.WESTAWAY@BIONET-20.ARPA> Dear BIONET, Just one quick question about sending a diskette for a copy of the new version of Kermit - should the diskette be already formatted? Or can we send one right out of the box? Shawn Westaway ABELSON.WESTAWAY -------

From: David Kristofferson <Kristofferson@BIONET-20.ARPA> Shawn, Since the DOS diskcopy command will format a disk while copying from the master you do not need to format it in advance. Just send one straight from the box. Sincerely, Dave Kristofferson BIONET Resource Manager kristofferson@bionet-20.arpa -------
