**************************************************** Schweizerische Kommission fuer Molekularbiologie **************************************************** SKMB course on Computer Concepts for the Sequence Analysis of Makromolecules Biocenter Basel, April 3 - 6, 1989 The course requires an elementary knowledge of computers and will be most useful to those with access to a Digital VAX. The application of the UWGCG and PIR pachake as well as W.Pearson's FASTA will be featured. TOPICS: Sequence information in the sequence databases Data retrieval from sequence databases Sequence editing Dotplot techniques Homology matrices Sequence alignments Searches of one sequence in the databases Manual multisequence alignment Searches of aligned sequences in the database Sequence analysis (ORFS, enzyme restriction maps, etc) Protein secondary structure prediction Measures for protein sequence analysis Programs will be demonstrated on-line with computer screen projector. (Limited) Facilities for practicing during the course are available. How to apply: Please send a short description of your research and computer experience including a list of what topics you are interested in at most. You might bring your sequence(s) (no entire genome, please) on tape, disk or eMail to analyze it yourselgf or with assistance.
