kristoff@NET.BIO.NET (Dave Kristofferson) (06/12/89)
We have received a proposal (see below) to start a newsgroup called AGROFORESTRY. The following names would most likely be used if the group is passed: Internet: AGROFORESTRY BITNET: AGFOREST USENET: bionet.agroforestry According to BIOSCI policy I now call for votes from the community on the proposal below. Voting will remain open for 60 days (until 11 AUG) or until 40 YES votes are received. The latter condition must be satisfied to create the newsgroup. To vote for this newsgroup, please mail a message containing the Subject line YES ON AGROFORESTRY to one of the following addresses: Address Location Network ------- -------- ------- biovote@irlearn.ucd.ie Ireland EARN/BITNET biovote@uk.ac.daresbury U.K. JANET biovote@bmc.uu.se Sweden Internet biovote@net.bio.net U.S.A. Internet/BITNET Sincerely, Dave Kristofferson BIONET Resource Manager kristoff@net.bio.net or kristofferson@bionet-20.bio.net ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CALL FOR A BULLETIN BOARD ON 'AGROFORESTRY' An organisation has existed in the UK for some years named the 'Agroforestry Research Forum', and has tried to co-ordinate research related to practice of growing trees with crops and/or animals in intimate mixtures. We meet regularly to discuss techniques and have designed a common core of trials which are being conducted at a number of locations. Currently around 20 different universities, government research institutes and other organisations are represented, and the spirit of co-operation is high. It was recently decided that we would like to encourage further national and international communication on this subject, and would make a formal application for AGROFORESTRY to be included as a scientific interest group in the Biosci system. Thus, can I ask when you would be able to set the voting proceedure in motion. It would be nice to have the BBoard in place for the start of an International Agroforestry Conference in Edinburgh on July 24-28)? If the voting is successful I would act as the protem convenor. Let me know if there's any further information I can provide. Best wishes Gerry Lawson
