		WORKSHOP ON COMPUTATIONAL ISSUES IN THE LIFE SCIENCES

	The University of Texas System Center for High Performance Computing
will be holding its first Workshop on Computational Issues in the Life Sciences
May 24-25, 1990, in the Commons Building, Balcones Research Center, Austin,
Texas. The goal of this conference is to provide life scientists with a
broader understanding of how computation, particularly high-performance
computation, is used in the analysis of problems arising in the life sciences
and medicine.

Invited speakers who have already confirmed are from GenBank, the National
Science Foundation, Sun Microsystems, Intelligenetics, Cray Research, and
Stardent. A speaker may also come from Silicon Graphics. Formal demon-
strations of various software packages will be given the first evening from
6:30 to 9:00 p.m. In addition, there will be poster and contributed paper
sessions available.

This workshop is open to everyone, with or without computer experience,
who is interested in the use of computers in the life sciences and medicine;
however, space is limited and will be assigned on a first come, first serve
basis.  It was previously reported that there would be no registration fee;
however, the response already received has necessitated a change. Non-UT
System participants will be charged a $35 registration fee to subsidize the
cost of 2 lunches and the evening reception.

Please let us know as soon as possible if you think you might wish to give a
15 minute paper so that we might reserve the time. You may contact us by
email, U. S. mail, FAX, or by calling one of the numbers listed below.
As soon as arrangements are finalized, additional materials and information
will be mailed to everyone who expresses interest in attending.
