                                POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

                         Urban Horticulture Landscape Design
                  Department of Horticulture University of Illinois

POSITION:  A 9-month, tenure-track appointment as assistant or associate
           professor.

QUALIFICATIONS:  A Ph.D. in horticulture, landscape architecture,
                 environmental sciences, or closely related discipline with
                 undergraduate or graduate level training in landscape
                 design or landscape architecture.

SALARY:  Commensurate with experience.

DUTIES:  Duties are split 50% teaching : 50% research.  The appointee must
         be able to teach undergraduate courses featuring basic principles
         of art and composition, planting design,computer-aided design,
         grading, drainage, and simple structures as related to residential
         and small commercial landscapes. A commitment to, and interest in,
         teaching and advising both undergraduate and graduate students is
         also required. The appointee is expected to conduct
         research,obtain research funding, and publish research results in
         the refereed literature. The research should be concerned with
         some aspect of plant performance in the urban environment,e.g. the
         interaction of plantscapes and human behavior, natural resource
         planning and management, or the development/evaluation of new
         plant materials for the urban landscape.
