Excuse me. The 32R16 is more like a 16R8 than a 16L8. Big deal.
Programmable output polarity is nice, but you can get that
with other devices too. Output term sharing, hey, isn't that a PLA?
With 2 16R8s, you get two clock lines too.

Have you ever compared the square inches of a 40 pin vs a 20 pin IC?
