[This message is a repost: the first made it to Usenet but not to the mailing lists. -- dan] Subject: UH Gene-Server updated: PIR 26, GB 65; will be updated regularly now The UH Gene-Server (gene-server@bchs.uh.edu) and the associated anonymous FTP archives (menudo.uh.edu, 129.7.1.6) have been updated with the latest release of the protein database PIR Rel. 26 and GenBank release 65. GB Rel. 66, which should be available shortly, will be added as soon as it becomes available. The GenBank entries will be updated weekly, on weekends. In addition, the PIR Re. 26 files have been grouped and placed for anonymous FTP retrieval in ~ftp/pub/genbank-server/pir as pir1.tar.Z, pir2.tar.Z, and pir3.tar.Z, corresponding to the three divisons of the PIR and their associated index files. The files are compressed, so be sure to use 'type binary' before FTP'ing them. The documentation files are available as pir-doc.tar.Z. Additional software has been added to the Mac and PC archives. GenBank Release 63, the last with the old feature table still used by many many programs, is still available on menudo for anonymous FTP.
