Firstly, let me apologise for cross-posting to so many groups, and for posting to so many (probably) incorrect groups. However, I am in a fix, and don't know which group(s) I should use. These seem to be the most relevant, and most likely to draw a response. I am a veterinarian at the local teaching hospital. I am trying to persuade the powers-that-be that we need net.access. This machine (frcs) belongs to my husband, and lives in his office. I have had a taste of the net using `frcs', and feel that it can be very useful to me and to the entire Veterinary faculty, but I need to have more ammunition than that to get something going here. If there are any Veterinarians on the net, or researchers or teachers in related fields, could you please send me mail to add weight to my arguments (just having a number of people on the net would help)? In addition, if anyone is using the net for research in related fields, or can think of ways in which we can use the net (hard ideas, please, not just ``it would be a good idea.'' -- that's my line already :-)), could you please mail me. The news feed to `frcs' is a bit scrappy (it's a computer company, after all, what do _they_ want with molecular biology?), so could you please reply to this by mail. Also I guess that this is probably _not_ of general interest to most net.users. If it is, I will summarise, if someone can point me in the direction of a suitable newsgroup. If there are enough people who can't think of a group, maybe we should start `sci.med.vet'? My mail address is (apparently) ``linda%frcs%proxima@ddsw1.mcs.com'' or ``linda%frcs@m2xenix.psg.com''. If these don't work, try one or more of the following: linda%frcs%proxima@ddsw1.mcs.com linda%frcs@m2xenix.psg.com ...!uunet!ddsw1!proxima!frcs!linda ...!uunet!m2xenix!frcs!linda proxima!frcs!linda@ddsw1.mcs.com frcs!linda@m2xenix.psg.com Thank you for your patience reading this (you got this far, didn't you? :-)). Please reply if you can help.

Linda, I searched an extensive (but incomplete) list of discussion lists and did not find any specific veterinarian lists. However, I found some that may help: FELINE-L <UMNEWS%MAINE.BITNET@VM1.NODAK.EDU> Mailing list for the discussion and disseminattion issues, legislation impact ing these animals, management in zoos, wildlife parks and the like, care, feeding, veterinary considerations, research use of cats, animal rights concerns, almost any other area dealing with any sort of cat, including showing, breeding, or training. The list presently is running on UMNEWS@MAINE. We anticipate transferring this discussion to our LISTSEsoon as it is installed and available. To post messages using E-mail, send to UMNEWS@MAINE with either a "TO:" entry in the form: TO: FELINE-L Discussion <UMNEWS@MAINE> or a "SUBJECT:" entry of: SUBJECT: UMBB.FELINE-L Your_on_subject_entry_goes_here Non-BitNet users should use "UMNEWS%MAINE.BITNET@VM1.NODAK.EDU" instead of "UMNEWS@MAINE". Such populations are very exhibiting a variety of phenomena that we stil do not master. Just to quote a famous example, multiannual density cycles (e.g. in lemmings) have not received a satisfactory expalnation, despite of decades of debated studies and speculations. Population Biology is a very active field, encompassing such diverse approaches as tenacious, harsh field work to track long term demographic and genetic fluctuations, or sophisticated conversations with a computer about strange attractors possibly causing chaos in the densiat can be discussed include: ecology, popu lation genetics, systematics, evolution, morphometry, inter mathematical modelling, population regulation, pest control, speciation, chromosomal evolution, social behavgy in population study, popula tion management of endangered species, applications of molecular biology techniques, etc., and, last but not least, your own topic. There is no restriction on the species: viruses, protokaryotes, plants, animals (including man), mythic or extinct species, computer- simulated species...
