Hello. With my colleague, Woody Powell, I am attempting to ferret out some measures of success for firms in the biotechnology industry. In particular, I am seeking to gain an understanding of firm level attri- butes of successful innovation. One means of doing so is to collect data on patents associated with particular biotech firms. There are many problems with this. The foremost is that patents are usually not granted to the firm, but to the individuals associated with them (ie., Cohen-Boyer). References to companies are available, but not easily accessed. Patent retrieval must be accomplished on the basis of keywords, such as interleukin or interferon, etc., or by cross referencing existing patents. I would like to request that any personnel on the net with working and current knowledge of human therapeutic and diagnostic biotechnology, whether in universities, research institutes, or private firms, send to BRANTLEP@ARIZVM1 or BRANTLEP@ARIZVM1.CCIT.ARIZONA.EDU a list of the most prominent patents in their field. This list would greatly facilitate our patent search. Thank you for you help. If you are interested in the results of our work and so indicate, we will send an electronic synopsis upon completion of initial analysis. pb Peter Brantley || Bitnet Brantlep at Arizvm1 Department of Sociology || Internet Brantlep at Arizvm1.Ccit.Arizona.Edu University of Arizona || SCUDnet Longitude 110W 057, Latitude 032N 014 Tucson, AZ 85721 || ATTnet (602) 621-3804 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
