[bionet.general] Status of BIOSCI reorganization and new newsgroups

kristoff@GENBANK.BIO.NET (Dave Kristofferson) (03/06/91)

Dear BIOSCI readers,

In the last month or so we have approved the creation of three new
groups for genetic linkage analysis, the Arabidopsis Genome effort,
and for computational biology. These groups have not yet been created
because of the on-going discussions between the four main BIOSCI sites
on how to improve the BIOSCI newsgroup delivery service. At least two
new distribution mechanisms have been proposed and are under scrutiny.

It is important that we do not rush into a new distribution scheme and
overlook something that creates more problems than are solved, so I do
not want to rush the progress of these discussions. However, I also
don't want to unduly delay the implementation of the above newsgroups,
so, depending upon progress over the next week, I may suggest that we
go ahead and establish the newsgroups under the current scheme. I
would think that all of the groups above should be functional before
the end of March.

				Sincerely,
