It has been put to me that IgE antibody has an important role in transplant rejection. As yet I have not been able to find any evidence of this - does anyone know of any, or perhaps a reference? Thanks, Michael.

In 1987 we published a paper entitled Immunoglobulin E (IgE) in patients with severe burns (Burns 13, 1987, pp. 458-461). We found 4 to 20 fold increase in total serum IgE one week after the burn injury. All patients are treated by skin allografts placed early after injury on all surfaces. 2. There we referenced Saryan J.A. at al.: J. Clin. Invest. 71, 1983, p.556. Theydecribed dramatic increase of IgE after bone marrow transplantation in patients with acute GVHD 3. I did not study IgE from 1987 any more but I feel that these data might be related to the subjcet and question you asked in this bulletin board.
